Ohakune is perfect to relax and enjoy nature for a few days. If you're a fan of Lord of the Rings, we have 8 locations around Ohakune for you to visit. Some require an 8 hour walk, some are just a few minutes away from our hostel! Many hikes, lakes, falls and mountain bike trails surround the area. And lets not forget the best ski field in the North Island, Turoa Skifield.

Did you know that Ohakune is the Carrot Capital of New Zealand? This is why you'll find so many giant carrots around town! Carrots have grown in Ohakune since the 1920’s thanks to the rich volcanic soil.
Did you know that Mt Ruapehu is an active volcano. It's last major eruption was in 1995.
Did you know that Ohakune has the best chocolate eclair shop called Johnny Nation's. Only open in winter, be sure to try one if you're around!

In Summer, a daily shuttle ($) can transport you to the start of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and bring you back to the comfort of the hostel at the end of the day or to enjoy a hut tub to relax those muscles!
In Winter, shuttles will bring you to the start of Turoa Ski Field ($).

The hostel staff is very nice. There is a great atmosphere and the rooms seem new. One od the best hostel in New Zealand.
