One can easily consider the Eiffel Tower as the symbol of Paris. Who does’t know it?

Built by Gustave Eiffel in 1889 for the Exposition Universelle in Paris, it was then the highest monument in the world at 300 meters high. It remained the highest monument for 42 years until the construction of the Empire State Building in New York, and has since been greatly exceeded several times. Now a days, the tower is not visited for its height, but its architectural and historic magnificence. You certainly will not get the chance to visit the Eiffel Tower in solitary : since its construction, and especially since the rise of international tourism, the number of visitors has increased exponentially, and is fast approaching the milestone of 300 million visitors a year.
