FAQ

Q: Do I need to have or buy a yearly membership Hostel Card to book a hostel on this site?

No. You do not have to have or buy a yearly hostel membership card to stay at any hostel listed on our site.

Q: How do I book a reservation?

You need a valid credit card to process your reservation. We accept Visa, Visa Delta, Visa Electron and MasterCard credit cards and Solo, Switch, JCB and Laser. We do not accept American Express.

The credit card must have sufficient funds to pay for the 10% guarantee deposit plus the booking fee of € 1.50.

After you select your destination and the hostel, the number of people and the number of nights that you want to book, the system will ask you to enter the credit card information and then to confirm the reservation.

Once you click on the “confirm” button, the system will process the transaction and then send you the confirmation record by email. The process takes less than a minute.

Be patient – do not click the button “confirm” more than once to avoid making duplicate bookings.

If you don’t find the confirmation email in your inbox, look for it in the “junk mail” folder as it may have been screened by the spam filter.

If you intend to book reservations for a large group or for a long stay, please expect to disburse a higher guarantee deposit. Look for these details in the Term and Conditions page.

You must print the confirmation record and bring it with you to the hostel.

Upon arrival and check-in to the hostel, you may be asked to pay the 90% balance stated on the confirmation page.

Q: Is there anything else that I should do with my reservation before I arrive to the hostel?

We suggest that you contact the facility 24 hours before your scheduled arrival to confirm your reservation and your estimated time of arrival.

If you plan to arrive after 12 noon or after the check-in time posted on the hostel’s website, please ensure that the hostel knows this so they do not cancel your reservation.

Always mention the booking reference number in all correspondence with the hostel.

Q: What is the maximum number of people that I can book and for how long?

Subject to availability, you can book up to 14 nights in any hostel. Some facilities allow you to book up to 30 nights. You can book a maximum of 10 people at a time.

Expect to pay higher guarantee deposits and service fees for these bigger reservations. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions page for details.

Q: If I travel with young children, should I reserve a private bedroom for us?

We recommend that you do. Please review the hostel’s policies regarding children and extra beds if required.

Q: Do hostels found on this site have restrictions in terms of age?

Most hostels do not have age restrictions. If they do, they will post this policy on their micro sites or web pages. A typical restriction could be 18 to 35 years old only.

Q: Is it safe to use my credit card on this site?

Of course! We use the latest SSL technology. All information is encrypted and transferred securely directly to the Hostel.

Q: Do I need a credit card to make a reservation?

You must have a valid credit card to book a reservation. We accept Visa, Visa Electron, MasterCard, Switch and Solo. We do not accept American Express.

Please visit the hostels microsite to verify whether the hostel accepts a specific credit card to pay for the 90% balance due upon arrival and check-in. If a hostel does not accept credit cards, the option will not appear in the hostel’s web page.

1. About Billing, Payments, Fees and Charges

Q: What is the 10% deposit?

When you make a reservation online we charge to your credit card a non-refundable guarantee deposit equal to 10% of the total amount of your booking. (We also charge a booking service fee of € 1.50.)

The remaining 90% cost of the amount of your booking is payable before or upon your arrival to the hostel facility.

Although the deposit paid to us is made in Euros, US$ or British Pounds using a specific credit card, the billing of the 90% balance payable to the hostel on site will be using the currency and the form of payment of their choice.

Make sure that you become acquainted with the form of payment and the credit card brands accepted, if any, by the hostel institution. Visit their micro website and their payment policies.

Q: Can I pay cash on arrival?

Each hostel has its own payment policy. We recommend that you visit their website to confirm what forms of payment are accepted by the institution: cash, credit card or ATM debit cards

Please note that you may be expected to provide a credit card or a cash deposit to cover for contingencies.

Q: The amount that appeared on my credit card statement was different to the one given to me during the reservation process.

The difference is due to currency exchange rate fluctuations, between the time when you made the reservation and the time when you paid the full amount and the hostel charged it to your credit card.

Although your deposit payment is charged in U.S. dollars (USD), Euros (€) or Pounds (GBP £), the booking confirmation sheet will display the balance in the currency of choice used by the hostel institution.

2. Managing Existing Reservations

Q: I have to cancel my reservation, what should I do?

You must contact the hostel directly. Please ensure that provide your booking number in all correspondences with the hostel.

Upon cancellation, the deposit of 10% and the booking fee are not refundable.

To avoid additional charges, please process your cancellation before the scheduled date of arrival as per the hostel’s cancellation policies.

If you do not process the cancellation on time, or you do not show up on time, your credit card will be charged with the full amount of your first night’s reservation.

Q: I booked the wrong type of room or the wrong dates, how can I change my reservation?

To change your reservation you must contact the hostel directly.

Please make sure that you mention the booking reference number in all your communications with the hostel.

Q: If I want to reduce the duration of my stay, can I apply the 10% deposit of the unused nights towards the hostel bill?

No, the 10% guarantee deposit applies to the number of nights booked in the original reservation. If you change your plans and leave earlier than expected, the 10% deposit mitigates the hostel’s loss resulting from your earlier departure.

Q: I have no confirmation, what should I do?

If you entered a valid email address in our booking system you should receive an email with all the information pertaining to your booking.

If you don’t find our correspondence in your email inbox, please search in the email “junk folder” as it may have been screened by the spam email filter.

It is possible that the company that hosts your email address failed to deliver our confirmation email. .
As a precaution, all the bookings that we make are also stored in our server. You may access all your bookings by login into your “My Account.” The “My Account” membership is set up automatically after your first booking with us.

Q: I got an error message while waiting for the confirmation page to appear, what do I do now?

Don’t panic. Our reservation system and credit card processing online is safe and efficient. We use WorldPay services.

There are a few reasons why your transaction may not be completed. Please contemplate the following triggers and try again.

a) The account may not have sufficient funds to cover the transaction.
b) You may have failed to complete correctly the mandatory fields of the booking form.

After attending these items, please resubmit your reservation. If the error message appears again, please make a copy of the message and contact us to help you out.

Q: Do I need to confirm my reservation before I arrive?

If you booked your reservation using a debit bank card or if this requirement is on the hostel’s microsite, the answer is yes. In all other cases, there is no need to reconfirm you reservation before your arrival. Your confirmation number is your proof of reservation at the hostel chosen.

3. Information on credit cards

Q: Does the name on the credit card must be the same as on the reservation?

If you do not have a credit card and someone around you allows you to use his or her card, we find no harm in processing your reservation. However, this may not be the case when you process the balance payment with the hostel facility.

Keep in mind that if you do not show up the day of your reservation, without previously having cancelled your reservation, the credit card used will be charged with the full amount of your first night’s reservation.

Q: I have a credit card, but I am unable to book the hostels I want.

Some institutions do not accept all credit cards and ATM debit cards, so this payment may not appear when you try to select the type of card you have.

Q: What credit cards and ATM bank cards are accepted on this site?

We accept Visa, Visa Delta, Visa Electron and MasterCard credit cards and Solo, Switch, JCB and Laser. However, please visit the hostel’s microsite to check if your cards are accepted when you need to deal with them.

This type of room is for two people and contains two twin beds.
