The problem was not with the hotel. It does what it sets out to do very well. I booked at the recommendation of European Waterways, which uses it as the pickup point for it's Barge Hotel cruises...
Everything is great: large room, quiet environment, beautiful view towards the garden and the canal with its lock, staff exceedingly polite and helpful, underground garage so the car is well sheltered...
